A Sampling of Reviews Through the Years

Note: There are more “early” references than “recent” because in the beginning I asked more frequently to build a reference “Portfolio”. This has no bearing on the enthusiasm or consistency of feedback reflected above either now or in more recent years.

I would like once again to thank you for performing a wonderful show for the children in our school. Over the past decades you have provided many wonderful shows that have kept the children giggling… It is a pleasure to have a performer return so consistently over such a long period of time. You have become a fixture here, and we are glad it is so. Sonia Klakowicz- Director, St. Lukes Preschool, October 2015

Ken is an experienced and outstanding storyteller who brings folk tales and a variety of stories to life for kids of all ages. He combines a mix of guitar playing and fun songs along with simple magic as part of his show. He has performed at our library numerous times and always has the crowd thoroughly engaged.  I highly recommend his program that engages both the old and young alike. – Lora Terifa, Children’s Librarian, Southampton Free Library, August 201

“Thank you so much for being part of the Michener Library’s third annual storytelling festival and for doing such a splendid job. You managed to entertain both preschool and elementary age kids, and their parents, all at the same time-not an easy task. I especially appreciated your mix of long and short tales and your novel ways of getting the audience involved…” Lynn Biddle: Coordinator, Michener Library Festival, 2003

“ On behalf of the Breezy Point Day School staff and students as well as our Parent Club, we would like to thank you for your wonderful performances in celebration of the Week of the Young Child. You have the ability to relate to children of all ages (in our case, 2 years old through elementary level)…We have had other performers visit us in the past whose talent was evident, however they were not as successful in keeping the children as focused and stimulated..” Nina Gorsky, Admistrative Director, 2002

“I have to share that all in attendance were absolutely thrilled with the storytelling performance you presented (at our blue and gold banquet). You were voted as the “best” in captivating all of our Cub’s attention for the longest period of time…all eyes were glued to your performance. I must note there were teenagers giving you their full attention also. What an amazing feat! Kim Dapper, Chairperson, Cub Scout Pack 222: 2002

“At a time of the year when students can be restless and reluctant to be engaged, Mr. Kaplan was capable of stunning our students with his story-telling skills.” Pamela Illg-Coordinator: Young Author Day, Butler Elementary School (Five shows, K-6, 2002)

“…You held the attention of our youngest toddlers to our oldest school age children. They loved your entertainment….all the way home my child was singing the wrong words to various songs. Recently she asked what happened to the mouse that was not cooperating.” Kate Knappman, PAC Vice President, Chesterbrook Academy, 1998

“…The music, stories and magic were on target for the two age groups for whom you performed. The twos were spellbound and the laughter from the threes, fours and fives echoed down the hallways.” Lois Alexander, Preschool Director Kaiserman JCC, 1992

“Your ears must be ringing with the success of the program at the library opening of the Summer Readers Club. The audience of 106 (ages 6-12) were soaked by the rain, chilled by the air conditioning, over-crowded on the floor, and completely captivated by your performance… Proof of your effectiveness was the borrowing of all the mythology books…” Claire Borits, Elkins Park Library, 1990

“You were able to hold the interest of 45 three and four year olds at the Pierce Branch with rollicking songs and motions to go with them. Then in the next session, a few hours later, you played music and told tales that was of interest to a large group of eleven year old boys. You have so much diversity in your program, and you are able to shift gears so fast that you were able to give two different programs in one afternoon…. They were both wonderful programs and I thank you very much. Ruth Kasper, Children’s Librarian; 1991: Part of Bucks County “Traveling Show Tour”

“ The Lane Montessori School extends their appreciation for another performance that truly captivated and entertained the children. ….One area I would like to complement you on is your ability to gear the material and tempo to the age level of the children. We have had other performers and groups put on shows for the children, but most have missed the mark in that the material was too advanced or the performers were unable to captivate the audience.” Joseph Lane, Lane Montessori School, 1990

“Thank you so much for such an outstanding program! Our nursery students were enthralled. Your multi-talents came through beautifully….and you were able to keep the attention of our very large group for over one hour….You are gifted with wonderful abilities. Your sense of timing with youngsters and your innate sense of their needs is marvelous. It was a true joy to have you perform with and for us.” Sheila Goldstein, Educational Director, Beth Shalom Preschool, 1989

“With the Skill of a seasoned conductor, Ken Kaplan orchestrates a “symphony” of children to all time choral heights.” Ed Miller, former DVAEYC (Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children) President, 1989
